Activity 5. Tommy Hilfiger
- Tommy Hifliger started to work in retail at the age of 18. In 1969 he began working as a distributor of hippie clothing. With only $150 he opened his own store, named People's Place. His store, The People's Place, was in the basement of a commercial building in Elmira. While it was successful, it was completely destroyed by the large flood that resulted from Hurricane Agnes in June 1972. After seven years, The People's Place went bankrupt, when Hilfiger was 25.
- In 1985, he founded the Tommy Hifiger Corporation.
- By 2004, the company had 5,400 employees and revenues in excess of $1.8 billion. The main products of this brand are:
- Hilfiger Denim is a denim collection for men and women; desings are inspired by American classics and finished with a modern edge.
- Tommy Girl is a fragance for women.
- Tommy Jeans is a denim inspired clothing collection and corresponding fragance.
- Hilfiger Athletics is a sport inspired clothing line and fragance.
